The Best Mac and Cheese

Rarely do I claim that a recipe is the best. My great-grandmother would roll over in her grave if she knew that her recipe for mac and cheese is not the best. However, this particular recipe is what I consider the best one out there. There’s something about Cheeze Whiz that makes this particular dish creamy, cheesy and delicious. It’s perfect for those family Sunday dinners, and can be prepared in advance.

  • 3 cups uncooked macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1  8-ounce jar of Cheeze Whiz
  • ½ stick butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 pound Cheddar, shredded
  • 1 pound Mozzarella, shredded

Cook macaroni in large pot of boiling water seasoned with salt. When tender, drain and return to pot. Add Cheeze Whiz and butter and stir. Combine eggs and milk and whisk until blended. In the bottom of a 9-by-12-inch baking dish, place ½ pound of Cheddar and ½ pound of Mozzarella. Spread the macaroni over the cheeses. Pour over the eggs and milk and stir together. Top with the rest of the Cheddar and Mozzarella. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until center is set. Serves 20.
