In life, there are many similarities. Over the last few weeks, I have come to realize a few similarities in my life. The greatest of these is the similarity between food and flowers.
When cooking, it is important to use the freshest, healthiest food that can be transformed into a wonderful meal that memories are made of. In the world of flower arranging, it is imperative that only the freshest of flowers are used to create a masterpiece.
Food should be locally grown or sourced, and this ensures that the freshest and seasonal fruits and produce are available. Flowers that are grown in your area and are in season make for a more beautiful arrangement instead of flowers that were shipped half way around the world.
In flowers and food, or in anything, a better design makes use of odd numbers. A vase with three hydrangeas fresh from the garden look much better in your Grandmother’s vase than simply two. A trio of appetizers served to you at a restaurant makes for a more interesting (and tasty) presentation.
However, the greatest similarity between food and flowers is their ability to make people smile. Both are present to mark special occasions, such as weddings, showers, graduations, christenings and anniversaries. Enjoy the moments when good food and beautiful flowers intersect, and remember how similar they really are.
